In the world of electrical contracting, the glamour often goes to the big luminaires, the smart controls, or the impressive panels. But beneath the surface, or even buried underground, are the unsung heroes that ensure an electrical system performs reliably and safely: the splices. A poorly protected splice can lead to everything from flickering lights and intermittent power to serious electrical hazards and system failures.
At EPCO, we understand the critical role of robust connections. That's why our Splice Kits and Heat Shrink Tubing are engineered to provide maximum protection, simplified installation, and long-term performance for a wide range of electrical applications.
The Power of a Protected Splice
Whether you're repairing a damaged underground cable, extending a circuit, or making a critical termination, the integrity of your splice is paramount. Our solutions are designed to deliver:
- Reliable, Sustainable Performance: Our splice kits and heat shrink tubing are built to last, ensuring your electrical connections remain stable over time.
- Water-Resistant Connections: A key feature, especially for outdoor or underground applications, is the ability to repel moisture and soil, preventing corrosion and short circuits.
- Mechanical and Environmental Protection: Beyond water, our products shield splices from physical damage, abrasions, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
- Eliminated Internal Deterioration: We design our products to prevent issues that can lead to open circuits and ultimately, cable failure.
EPCO Splice Kits: Your Go-To for Quick, Secure Repairs
When an underground electrical cable is accidentally cut or severely damaged, or you need to extend a circuit, the simplest and fastest way to make a robust repair is with an EPCO Splice Kit. Our kits are specifically intended for direct burial applications and provide a permanent, water-resistant seal for both copper and aluminum conductors.
EPCO offers five (5) splice kit configurations designed to tackle virtually 90% of the job site repairs an electrical contractor will encounter. Each kit includes a rustproof single (discrete) brass or aluminum connector, or a multi-port cylindrical brass connector for "line splicing" cables with multiple conductors.
Installation is surprisingly simple and straightforward: After preparing the damaged cable, the mechanical connector is applied. Then, a section of our Thick Wall Heat Shrink Tubing is heated over the connection. This process causes the tubing to shrink tightly around the splice, and its internal adhesive/sealant melts to create a permanent, water-resistant seal, protecting the splice from dirt and moisture. No messy epoxies, tape, or separate mastics are required!
Typical Cable Types Repaired:
- Underground Service Entrance (USE) Cable
- Underground Feeder (UF) Cable
- And many more direct burial rated cables
EPCO Heat Shrink Tubing: Versatility and Ultimate Protection
Thick Wall Heat Shrink Tubing (HST) is the perfect partner to our splice kits, but also stands alone as an essential component for any electrical professional. Made from durable, cross-linked polyolefin, our HST provides superior dielectric insulation and encapsulates electrical connections. The heat-activated adhesive and sealant on the inside of the tubing ensures a tight, moisture-proof seal.
EPCO's Heat Shrink Tubing is incredibly versatile and can be used for:
- Insulation: Providing a high-quality dielectric barrier.
- Harnessing: Bundling cables neatly and securely.
- Strain Relief: Protecting connections from stress and pulls.
- Identification: Color-coding for easier maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Mechanical Protection: Guarding against impact, abrasion, corrosion, and chemicals.
Our HST products are UL Listed, meet NEC requirements (including Articles 110.14(B), 300.5, and 300.50(D) where applicable), and are rated for up to 600 Volts. We offer a variety of sizes, from 14 AWG all the way up to 500 MCM, ensuring you the right fit for any job.
