Energy Efficient Lighting - WIIFM

With the phase-out of the Edison-base lamps, we are seeing much advancement in energy efficient lighting technology, like vapor tight fluorescent and led luminaires. However, the Edison base bulbs are not quite dead and only have a brief reprieve. They will still be available, but only short term. So why push to switch to energy efficient lighting – What’s In It For Me (WIIFM)?

Saving energy for the sake of the environment is an obvious reason but the “cash prize” may be a little more enticing. Put extra coin in your pocket through rebates offered by your local utility, tax deductions from the retrofit specific energy saving mandate, and, of course, the money you gain from the energy savings.

Here’s a cost saving example:

EPCO’s 9-watt LED (supplied with the LED Keyless and Pull Chain Lamp Holder) compared to a 60-watt Incandescent Lamp :

Lamp Comparison             60-watt         13-watt         9-watt

Annual Energy Cost          $36.75*          $7.98*          $5.52*

Lumen Output                       890                900             800

Annual Energy Savings using a 9-watt vs. a 60-watt = 85% or $31.23 Savings!

*The kWh of electricity used per day is 1.44 kWh for a 60-watt Incandescent Lamp vs. 0.312 kWh for a 9-watt LED Lamp based on operating 24 hours a day, 365 days at $0.07 per kWh per day. Your actual savings will vary based on the amount of electricity you use and your supplier's cost per day may be more or less than the estimated savings presented in this example.
