EPCO Now Providing Distributors Only Direct Source for Tube Guards
Headquarters now manufacturing T5, T8 and T12 Tube Guards
MINNEAPOLIS Feb. 26, 2009—On the heels of last year’s addition of a Polycarbonate T5 Tube Guard to EPCO’s T8 and T12 family of tube guards, the company announced that it has begun manufacturing all of its tube guards in its Minneapolis facility. Explaining the move, EPCO President Jack Schuster says, “We’re now the only tube guard manufacturer that markets direct to the electrical supply industry, so distributors have a direct source. By bringing our manufacturing in house, we taken another step to becoming the dominant manufacturer for specialty lighting and lighting accessories.”
Schuster added that while EPCO has not had quality and stock outage issues, manufacturing their own products provides the company greater control over both quality and meeting customers’ just-it-time inventory needs and custom extrusion requests. Tube Guards will continue to be sold in 24-unit case cartons.

EPCO Unveils New GFF Series Linear Fluorescent Lighting Fixtures that Meet Standards for Performance in Wet Locations
Four- and Eight-Foot Fluorescent Fixtures for T5 and T8 Lamps Extend Domestically Manufactured GFF Series Product Line
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA August 2008—Engineered Products Company (EPCO), a supplier of specialty lighting and wiring solutions, has introduced the GFF Series™ Fluorescent Lighting Fixtures that have been certified by NSF International and have a NEMA 6P and IP67 Enclosure Rating. According to EPCO President Jack Schuster, "The rating of these dust- and moisture-resistant fluorescent fixtures makes them ideal for use in wet locations. They provide a high degree of protection to the fixture’s internal components, which is especially advantageous where wash-down is required. Plus, the acrylic diffuser withstands breakage typically caused by high-power pressure washers to reduce replacement and maintenance costs."
In addition to these benefits, these domestically manufactured lighting fixtures accommodate T5 or T8 lamps for long rated life, energy efficiency, and more uniform lumen distribution. For low- or high-ceiling applications, the highly reflective coated finish of the gear tray surface translates into improved lumen maintenance by providing more usable lumens per watt. Cam-type polycarbonate and stainless steel latch options accommodate a variety of environments.
EPCO’s UL-listed GFF Series Linear Fluorescent Lighting Fixtures are available for immediate shipment. Typical applications include:
- Food processing facilities
- Commercial kitchens
- Breweries
- Industrial facilities
- Livestock containment buildings
- Parking garages
- Clean rooms
- Airports
- Beneath awnings
- Laundries
- Road tunnels
- Car washes
- Marinas
- Cold-storage
- And more...
Features that save contractors time and labor
- Solid fiberglass reinforced housing provides strong rigidity and no deflection.
- Continuous "poured-in-place" gasket seals and protects the lighting fixture from water seeping in.
- Tethered gear tray simplifies installation and allows for easy ballast replacement.
- The fixture’s luminaire disconnect enables safe servicing of the fixture and ballast without exposure to electrical shock.
- No tools or fasteners are required to attach the acrylic diffuser; the diffuser is compression-fitted to the enclosure housing.
- No drilling through the enclosure housing is required for installation; optional mounting brackets easily attach to the enclosure housing to reduce installation time and save labor.
- Mounting options for surface mount, chain or pendant hanging.

Engineered Products Company (EPCO) has added Polycarbonate T5 Tube Guards to our product family of T8 and T12 Tube Guards. These Tube Guards are in our warehouse now and available for immediate sale!
EPCO’s T5 Tube Guard, Part Number 17093, will fit all 4-foot T5 FP54 lamps. These Tube Guards are sold only in Case Carton quantities of 24 units per carton and include end caps (part number 17102). We will not break Case Carton quantities!
Note: Under no circumstances should T5 Tube Guards be used with any VHO lamps. The excessive heat from this lamp will melt the tube guard and may cause damage to the light fixture.
Background: T5 lamps are smaller in size (length and width) which makes them well suited for the low-profile, elegant fixtures that are especially popular for upscale retail, hospitality and commercial spaces like display cases or wall-washing. Its smaller scale allows for sleeker fluorescent direct/indirect surface mounted and pendant fixtures.
T5 lamps provide good lumen maintenance and efficacy, long rated life, good color rendition, and virtually instant re-strike. T5 lamps are more efficacious than T8 lamps producing more light output for the same number of lamps. T5 lamp operation is also optimized at a higher ambient temperature than T8 lamps, good for warmer applications.

Application Note - 19 Cubic Inch Junction Box Meets the National Electrical Code Box Fill Requirements
Agricultural Building Electricians and Contractors - save time, labor and materials on your next project! If you are currently installing a second PVC conduit run for your ventilation fan or power circuit, now you can pull those conductors along with your lighting circuit conductors in just one PVC conduit run and still have room in the junction box for terminations!
When you install Engineered Products Company’s (EPCO) new 19 cubic inch junction box, you can pull the conductors for that extra power circuit in addition to your lighting circuit and still meet the box fill requirements as referenced in the 2008 National Electrical Code (NEC), Article 314.16 (A). There is no need to install that second PVC conduit run!

QuikWhip Benefits:
- UL Listed – as a complete “listed” Wire Assembly that complies with the 2008 NEC.
- Significant Contractor Time and Labor Savings!
- Pre-attached WAGO connectors on each end of the Fixture Whip add speed and dependability when finalizing fixture whip terminations. This connector will fit through the knockout on either the light fixture or junction box.
- No tools required to install the QuikWhip! A cost effective solution that eliminates lock nuts and wire nuts.
- QuikWhips are available in 12 part number configurations to support a broad variety of application requirements.
An independent study revealed that EPCO QuikWhips™ save Contractors up to three minutes per installation. And since time is money, the study translated the time savings into a cost savings of $2-3 per installation compared with standard Fixture Whips.
The secret to QuikWhip’s unprecedented speed is pre-installed WAGO® Pushwire four-port connectors on each end of the QuikWhip and two die cast “snap-in” connectors that snap directly into the fixture or electrical box to complete fixture whip terminations. The snap-in connectors are easier and faster to push through the knockout on the fixture, compared to using connectors that require a locknut that must be screwed onto the connector. And QuikWhip’s tool-less installation makes it a more cost-effective solution that eliminates lock nuts and wire nuts.
The WAGO connectors facilitate the connection from incoming power to the fixture. EPCO attaches WAGO connectors to one end or both ends of the QuikWhip for different applications. UL Listed as a complete “listed” Wire Assembly that complies with the 2008 NEC, QuikWhip features solid or stranded THHN conductors enclosed in six feet of 3/8” flexible steel conduit.
The QuikWhips are available in 12 part number configurations to support a broad variety of application requirements. If you would like to receive a QuikWhip product sample for evaluation, please contact EPCO’s Marketing Department.

EPCO will offer you 50% of your order in standard fixture whips and balance in QuikWhips at no extra charge.
